Anton Kern Gallery was established in SoHo in 1996 with the intention to exhibit the work of young and emerging artists, to successfully build their careers and bring their work to the attention of audiences, collectors and museums. Today, the gallery represents 40 contemporary artists from the US, UK, Europe, Asia, and South America, many of whom are mid-career with museum shows and works placed in public and private collections around the world.
Anton Kern Gallery, a respected contemporary art gallery in New York City, has built its reputation since 1996 by championing both emerging and mid-career artists and presenting rigorous solo and group exhibitions that resonate with international audiences. Prior to seeking PR from an outside agency, the gallery historically managed publicity in-house. As part of a strategic effort to expand its media presence around two major solo exhibitions with Brazilian artist Marepe and Scottish artist Andrew Sim, the gallery engaged A&O PR to elevate its exhibition communications, broaden critical dialogue, and extend press visibility in local arts and culture publications.
A&O PR developed and executed a tailored exhibition-focused public relations strategy designed around the distinct practices and narratives of Marepe and Andrew Sim, while underscoring Anton Kern Gallery’s legacy of rigorous contemporary programming. A&O PR’s approach emphasized a strong partnership between our agency and the gallery. We combined traditional media relations with creative strategy, aligning press outreach with broader engagement opportunities like the gallery’s participation at Frieze NY. A&O PR advised on storytelling, timing, and audience development while closely collaborating with the gallery’s internal team to ensure alignment and cohesion. This included fine-tuning messaging for press materials, shaping exhibition narratives for different media contexts, and directing the selection and coordination of visual assets to support editorial placements, ensuring top-tier placement in a competitive New York art market.
A&O PR’s work generated meaningful and measurable media impact for both exhibitions, enhancing critical attention across respected art outlets. Results achieved include 380,000+ estimated views across all press placements with a combined audience reach of 378 million, significantly amplifying the gallery’s visibility beyond its established network. A&O PR secured coverage from top-tier arts and culture outlets including Artforum, Hyperallergic, and niche editorial platforms like Two Coats of Paint and OVERSTANDARD – Culture & Creativity.
