The Hole is a contemporary art gallery in New York City run by Kathy Grayson, a former director at the now-closed Deitch Projects. A&O was selected by The Hole to execute a PR campaign on the occasion of “Giverny”, a high profile exhibition featuring the work of Kembra Pfahler and E.V. Day, sponsored by Playboy.com. The Hole was looking to A&O to assist in making “Giverny” a media success, as well as develop best practices for the gallery’s internal communications strategy.
A&O liaised with The Hole and the representative for Playboy.com, assisting with sponsor benefit fulfillment around messaging, media strategy and media relations pertaining to the “Giverny” exhibition. Leveraging the influential nature of the gallery and artists involved in “Giverny”, A&O planned and produced The Hole’s press event related to the exhibition, providing top-tier journalists an opportunity to obtain a first view of “Giverny” and attend an artist talk led by the exhibiting artists and Ms. Grayson.
In addition to press event planning, media training was conducted, key messaging was developed, and an internal communications strategy was designed and implemented. As a result of A&O’s integrated strategy, press was secured in major print and online media outlets including The New York Times, The Art Newspaper, ARTINFO, Hyperallergic, Brooklyn Rail and Artillery.
