Recap: Art Fag City’s Rob Pruitt Art Awards and Auction
Last night I had the opportunity to attend the Art Fag City Rob Pruitt Art Awards and Auction. Try to say that 10 times fast. Here’s a few shots I took with the ol’ Instagram (which I realize look much better on an i-phone screen than they do here, but hey.) The highlight of the evening was, hands down, the performance piece by Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw, who served up bite-sized morsels of strawberry, ridiculously teensy-sized portions of diced celery, and skewered slices of gold leafed Kielbasa, all hand-carved and sparsely presented on silver trays carried by waiters dressed in Luis the XVI attire.
I shot a really great vid of Jen speaking about the concept behind the piece, but she wasn’t mic’d (oops!) so it sounds too lo-fi to publish here. If you’re interested in seeing the vid, shoot me an email and I’ll send it your way. Essentially, Jen and Paul’s pieces draw attention to gluttonous excess through satirical, interactive, performance-based “installations” that are designed to be fun and engaging. Who doesn’t love that?! I couldn’t get enough of them.
Other highlights included bumping into the evening’s auctioneer, CK Swett, who I think is one of the loveliest people on earth, and also meeting the enormously talented and debonaire duo, Andrew Andrew. So, without further ado, here are the flicks and I hope you enjoy!
