Review – Art In A Box
I had heard great things about Art In A Box, a subscription service in which you receive an original piece of art every month, so I decided to test it out. And after experiencing the minimum subscription plan of 3 months I can’t rave enough about it!
Once I purchased my plan, I was given a sheet that asked me to check off my favorite mediums and write several one-word descriptions of things I like. So of course I wrote cheeseburgers, burritos, summer, fun, awesome, random, and rad, as well as chose every medium available! Customer service was efficient and warm, which was comforting considering the whole excitement of Art In A Box comes from the fact that you never know what’s going to be inside. So since I felt like I could trust their judgment and vibe, I knew I was always going to get a piece I really liked without worry.
Over the course of 3 months I received 2 small ceramic sculptures and one original illustration – in addition to an assortment of pins, stickers, and even a handmade holiday card that were all by different artists. Each piece arrived in perfect condition and came with a description of the artist who created it. Also, all of the work was created and dated in 2011, making it all feel fresh. And even though I knew I was paying for it, it still felt like I was getting a gift once a month when I saw the package on my doorstep full of goodies. Hell, even the box itself was awesome with its silk-screened logo and string wrapping.
I highly recommend Art In A Box to people just starting their art collections, fiends who can’t get enough, and anyone who’s ever wanted to kick up the rush of opening a blind box to a whole new level.

The actual box! I have mine shipped to me, so this box comes inside a really sturdy USPS box for double protection.
Cost: $40-$50 per month
Pro: Best thing for an artoholic since the Internet. Awesome and affordable way to build a massive art collection.
Con: May be too adventurous for some, since you don’t know what you’re getting each month
