Art Opening – Esao Andrews & Alison Sommers – Thinkspace Gallery
To kick off its first show of the year, Thinkspace had an exhibit of both Esao Andrews’ and Alison Sommers’ fantasy driven work. In the main gallery, where Esao’s exhibit titled Nowhere was taking place, he had about 16 of his oil paintings on display in which he had fully utilized all of the medium’s unique applications to create some seriously cool shadow and light effects. Whereas in the project room, Alison’s medium of choice was gouache for her exhibit Potter’s Field that featured several tiny paintings done on the inside of matchbooks in addition to larger works on illustration board. And even though it wasn’t part of this particular show, I’ve included pictures at the bottom of this post of Dave Cooley’s awesomely textured work that is still available.
