Art Opening – Mie Olise + Brenna Youngblood – Honor Fraser Gallery
Honor Fraser [Gallery] had its opening reception for Brenna Youngblood’s show The Mathematics of Individual Achievement and Mie Olise’s installation Shipsearching on the same night – October 29th. Olise’s installation is of a crooked wooden structure that you can actually walk up in to by entering through a narrow passageway. Unfortunately, the line was quite long so I didn’t get a chance to walk up to the top myself, but it looked as though there was a screen emitting some kind of vibrant blue light when you reached the far end. On the other hand, Brenna Youngblood had a very fitting title for her exhibit, since most of her sculptures were built using basic geometric shapes like triangles and pentagons. Youngblood also had a couple untitled pieces that related to food – one of which had a large sunny side up egg on it and the other resembled cartoon toast.
