EVENTS – The Series at The Standard Hotel [downtown LA]
The Series events at The Standard hotel in downtown Los Angeles keep getting better and better. When you took the elevator up to the roof you were immediately flashed by a photographer and then immersed into a world of royal madness. I followed the sound of deep moaning until I found my way next to the pool – where a hooded figure was chanting a spell over a group of dancers that wore paper bags over their heads. And when I turned to look around during their set I saw a woman who appeared to have been kidnapped, since there was duct-tape over her mouth and eyeliner streaming down her face. I started getting really worried because right after seeing her I heard another woman screaming from just outside the bathroom. I didn’t feel relaxed until one of the other performers assured me it was all part of the event. Although the music and dancing were phenomenal, the greatest part about the experience to me was the installation piece of a construction site by Sam Spenser. Sam told me he created the painting earlier that day with oil paint and pastels, which is mind-blowing to think about since it was an impeccable optical illusion.
