ART PLATFORM Los Angeles – Co/Lab RECAP
The real excitement at Art Platform was happening on the basement level of the building where all the co-op and artist-run galleries are. It was neat to see a bunch of emerging talents from Los Angeles and sure, there was some rubbish down there, but there was also plenty of rubbish upstairs too. There was a definite sense of play in the air at Co/Lab and I was stunned to witness a bunch of artists exploring new methods of creation that I’ve never seen or heard of being attempted before. Below are some highlights from Co/Lab.
For this installation the artist built an entire wood paneled floor that covered the gallery’s exhibiting space. I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to walk on it at first and I think many others had the same reaction, quite fun!

A huge installation made out of old ladders
The woman who made this mirror and rope piece was wearing a sea boat captains hat
A subtle detail to this ladder was that it was assembled around a pipe. I think most people overlooked this, shame on them.

The artist Amir Nikravan uses an insane printing process to make these works

The paint on this car was so thick it almost made it feel like a sculpture.

The chainsaw, by Chris Tallon, is in fact made of cut and folded paper. Please correct this if possible. You can erase my comment afterwards too. Tx!
Just corrected it YAY!
The painting with the guy with the baseball bat is mine!!! It is called Riot, it is 12 x 12 inches, from 2011, and was on show at the Durden & Ray space. Their website is http://www.durdenandray.com
