Art Opening Recap – Night Gallery
I was confused when I got the invitation to Night Gallery’s latest opening reception, since it said it started at 10pm – which is when most art events end. However, when we got to the gallery at 11:30pm it all made sense. The current exhibit, curated by Hunter And Cook, featured a selection of Canadian artists who were doing everything from collages on ceramic to tie-dye prints of Joseph Merrick [aka The Elephant Man]. The gallery itself was equally as unique as the artwork on the walls, especially since all the walls were painted black and one of the rooms was only accessible by squeezing yourself sideways through an extremely narrow passage way. When we managed to shimmy through the entranceway I thought a fog machine was going off, but it was actually a thick cloud of marijuana smoke. But, I guess it was all part of the art though since one of the pieces in the show was a limited edition porcelain pipe designed by Katie Ryans. If you can stay up late enough, Night Gallery is definitely a spot worth checking out.
