A Perfect Gift For Art Collectors On A Budget – ART IN A BOX
The Compound Gallery in Berkeley [CA] has an ongoing service called Art In A Box, where for $40 a month they send you an original piece by a local artist. That’s right, not a print, but an original. One of my friends who is an avid supporter of Art In A Box recently acquired a piece valued at over $1,500 - so in some ways it’s almost like a much cooler version of a groupon. For ten dollars more a month they will ship your box to you anywhere in the world – since they even have some collectors all the way in Australia and Europe. The way it works is extremely simple. Either go into the gallery or go to their website [http://artinabox.net/subscribe/], sign up for a minimum of three months and then they’ll ask you about what your favorite mediums and adjectives are. Here’s the clincher, they take all of your information and curate a box specifically for you each month! If you’re an art collector on a budget, this is perfect for you. For less than $500 a year you can acquire 12 original pieces.
An installation that’s all part of the Art In The Box headquarters. There was audio running and the screens would flash different words and video clips.
Instead of signing a traditional mailing list with a pen, guests are encouraged to use this typewriter to put their email addresses down on paper – SO COOL!!!
