We totally performed a Curb Your Enthusiasm style chat and cut to get closer to the front of the line when we saw James Dean, the rad artist we interviewed HERE, for the opening of Chain Letter at the Shoshana Wayne Gallery. James told us that there were so many artists bringing their work to the show a couple days before that they caused traffic on the 405 freeway. Several artists even didn’t make it in time and were giving out free samples of their work outside the gallery – one of which was an odd glossy poster of a woman with a nipple piercing. Once we got inside there was so much to take in that we slowed down our normal thousand-mile-an-hour pace and really treated it like an safari. A lot of the work was interactive and would have directions like make a paper airplane and throw it or write down your favorite memory and place it in alphabetical order by last name into a box. The concept behind the show was that each artist invited could asked 6 of their friends to create a piece of work for the show, who in turn could invite six of their friends, and so on and so on, creating one of the biggest group shows of all time. Supposudly there were two whole other spaces filled with work, but we only had time to check to the main space.
This line was about 500 feet long and almost went all the way to Santa Monica from Bergamot Station.
The crowd inside was packed too, not a great scene for people who need their personal bubbles of space haha

This was one of my favorite pieces in the show, it was literally a broken printer/scanner combo that the artist couldn’t return haha
A literal depiction of choking a chicken
This was part of an interactive work in which you were supposed to take a photo of someone holding a sign which said “I Admire You”. There was also a piece nearby where you took a photo of yourself holding your email address and the artist was going to send you the image later sometime – unfortunately, the camera was out of batteries by the time we got there.

This little animation of a koala was projected on the wall and randomly floated around
Now you can rock out with hairy shoes
From the side, the piece above looked like a giant pink fortune cookie…it turned out to be a vagina.
About 40% of the works in the exhibit involved poo in one way or another, probably because some of the artists only had a day to think of what to put in the show
